The first batch of Elongon™ 2″ loom kits is ready to ship, featuring the “Gen 2” headless pins and a convenient reference stamp on the back of the loom:

When we launched the Elongon last year, we mentioned that this type of “longer” hexagon opens up a whole new world of design possibilities. Take a look at some of the projects that our customers have been making with their Elongons:

Earlier this year, Greta Holmstrom presented her “Mermaid Shawl”, made of SweetGeorgia Superwash Worsted in Beach House, Grape Jelly, West Wind and Pistachio. She is using the elongated hexagons sideways to shape her triangular shawl. In her own words: “I’m seeing more of these in my future…”

Susan Ober is an avid participant of the “Shave Em to Save Em” program. She makes the most beautiful things, from spinning the different wools to turning them into finished projects, including this cozy muff. She used three different shades of Jacob Wool for her elongated hexagon weaving and lined the muff with knitted faux fur.

Kathryn Olson used stash yarn to make this interesting blanket in memory of her brother Fred, who passed away in May. While Kathryn created her blanket by trial and experimentation, she unleashed another interesting geometry fact about elongated hexagons: If you make “pie” shapes, you can put eight (8) pieces together in the round … to make an octagon blanket out of hexagons. That’s because the tips of the elongated hexagons have right angles. The math of hexagons is simply amazing …
