Yarn Review: Scheepjes Colour Pack Catona

YES! You can weave Scheepjes Catona mini balls on the TURTLE Loom™ “fine sett”!

20181013_145707_resized (2)Those of you who have been closely following the launch of our new TURTLE Loom™ “fine sett”  know that we were still looking for more cotton yarns to weave on this loom. I’m happy to say that we can add an amazing yarn that comes in plenty of beautiful colors to the “approved” list, the Scheepjes Colour Pack Catona.

I’ve recently seen the Scheepjes Colour Pack Catona in a few yarn stores, but I was definitely surprised to find it at Hobby Lobby today. I just had to try!

20181013_145559_resized (2)The collection consists of 109 mini balls in different, scrumptious colors. The yardage per ball is about 27 yards which is enough to make three 4″ hexagons (fine sett) and have a little leftover.

20181013_150451_resized (2)The yarn is 100% Mercerized cotton, which means the yarn has no give and you have to weave EXTREMELY loosely. But if you follow this advice, the weaving is very enjoyable and the results are pleasant.

Buying the box is of course not cheap (add it to your holiday wish list), but consider what you’re getting: You will have enough quality cotton yarn in over one hundred vibrant colors to make 327 hexagons, enough for a large afghan, or two small ones, or a large variety of smaller projects. A box full of adventures.

We definitely see Catona projects coming our way in 2019!

PS: “Catonabolletjes” is a loving Dutch expression for “Catona mini balls”.

  1. I did try my bonbon cotton yarn on my fine gauge hexagon loom, and it weaved up beautifully, so I can definitely see getting this pack of Scheepjes Colour Pack Catona yarn for future projects.
